Stop Panic Attacks with These 3 Effective Techniques
In a nutshell, a panic attack is a sudden and overwhelming surge of fear and anxiety that can take over a person’s rationality, leading him/her to think that they are becoming detached from reality, fainting, losing control over everything, or even dying. Causes for panic attacks are different for each person, the triggers – even more baffling. Attacks can happen anytime, anywhere and for any number of reasons; sometimes there is even none.
For people aiming to relieve themselves of this condition, there are many treatment options that can prove to be useful. Medications and behavioural therapy will always come t mind. But aside from these two effective techniques, there are also others which have proven to be effective without having to be scientifically developed or technologically advanced. Here are some of those techniques which can stop panic attacks effectively:
Deep Breathing: If you can do diaphragmatic breathing or abdominal breathing then so much the better as it can quickly manage the symptoms associated with panic/anxiety attacks, if not, chest breathing will also work. Just note that deep breathing may be a bit hard to do when under the influence of an attack, to help with this, try to focus all your attention to the way that you breathe. Don’t think about anything else for the time being except in establishing a normal breathing pattern. This will quickly dissipate the fear and anxiety that you feel by establishing a deep sense of relaxation, control, and rational thought.
Keep away from stress: one of the major causes of panic attacks is stress and it would be in your best interest to keep away from it or keep it away from you at least. There are many stress management techniques that will help you succeed in this endeavour. Learn about the different relaxation methods that you can use, and start practicing them immediately. Yoga, aerobics, art therapy, music therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy and the like are just some of the techniques you can find when looking for good stress management techniques.
Distraction: Distracting yourself during times of trouble will help you get through the situation without having to suffer any of the embarrassing or terrifying symptoms. Laugh out loud, sing, dance, watch television, read a comic strip – anything! – as long as you are able to take your mind off of what you find to be threatening you will be fine.
Depending on the circumstances and how you use these techniques, they will prove to be either useful or useless to you. But you also know that there are many other techniques available out there, if you find these techniques to be too simple or somewhat inapplicable for your situation, try searching the net for other techniques you can use. So take action and stop panic attacks, do it as early as possible as well, to avoid it from developing into something that will cause you more pain in the future.
