Be Careful With Your Glassware - These Tips Should Help!
Luxury glassware which is brought out on those special occasions can be valuable not to mention sometimes irreplaceable and more importantly breakable. Luxury designers such as Kosta Boda create wonderful glass art that anyone would rightly cherish, and you can reduce the likelihood of harming your glassware by following a few useful tips.
Firstly, as obvious as it seems, you should ensure that you place your glass and crystal out of harms reach on a sturdy shelf or in a reliable cupboard. Ensure also that they are stored the correct way up and are not too crowded. Storing glasses upside down can put stress on the rim and may cause the glass stress.
Handling your glassware with care goes without saying but many people do not realise how delicate the stem is. Ensure you hold one glass at a time and try not to put stress on the stem.
On the subject of washing your glassware, be sparing with your washing up liquid. Not only will it make the glass slippery to handle but it can leave a residue. It can be useful to use a drop of vinegar in the water to prevent smears on the glass and help with stubborn marks. Follow up rinsing the glass by swilling it with water to rid the soap entirely.
In drying your glassware, ensure you use a lint free cloth and try not to put stress on the stem or on the rim. If you are very particular and wish to eliminate smears and water marks after rinsing, fill your glasses with water and then dry one by one once your washing up is complete. If you prefer you can air dry but do so only on a rack otherwise you may find the glass misting up.
Crystal glassware containing lead is soft for this very reason. It therefore needs more care and attention than other glassware but in looking after it, it will look its best for many dinner parties to come.
