Tips On How To Go About Replacing Windows
It is important that you buy replacement windows that will not clash with your current house motif. The primary thing you need to do when you have a task of replacing or building new windows is to measure them. Read on to get information on how to go about replacing your windows.
Make sure that the old window is removed first before you measure the window frame. This will help you get the right measurement for your new windows. There are a lot of sizes for replacement windows available in stores. And most of the window sizes available are measured through the opening. So, be sure to remove the entire windows when measuring them.
In the process of measuring, the first thing you must determine is the width of your window. Always measure the width of the window at three points. Make sure that you measure from the top down or down up whatever suits you, just make sure that you have a sytem. Use a tape measure and write down the number of measurement you got.
The next thing to measure, which is the last, is the height of your window. Just repeat what you did when you measured the width. Just be sure that you measure the height at more than two pints of the window.
If you do not want to do the measuring yourself then you can ask someone from the store to do it for you. Or you can measure yourself and ask somebody to confirm if your measurement is correct. Having someone confirm your measurement of the windows is good so that you can be sure that it is the correct size. But if you really are not sure about measuring the windows yourself then you can just go ahead and hire a professional.
Measuring windows are quite easy and anyone who know how to use a measuring tape can do it. Just be sure that the width and height of your window is properly measured. Make sure to measure the window properly the first time around so that you don’t have to repeat the process again. Just follow the guidelines of measuring windows discussed on this page.

Make Your Walls Pop with Wall Sculptures
I saw a friend’s house not too long ago and, although I don’t usually take note of such things, I was interested in his interior decoration. The style is something called steam punk, a sort of futuristic Victorian, which seemed as if it came straight from Jules Verne, a a bit like Captain Nemo meets Robur the Conqueror, all shimmering brass, leather, futuristic technology, and clockwork. My friend’s version was much more ‘Indiana Jones’, with his steamer trunk table, collection of fascinating artifacts, sculpture and interesting ancient wall reliefs. It went along with his house, originally built in the 1920’s and made a comfortable, interesting inside properly suited to his huge collection of books.
My house is somewhat more modern, so when I thought about ways of furnishing my living area (something I was informed was ‘up to me’) I declined the steam punk concept. Although I’m no interior designer I can tell that a certain proportion between interior and exterior is beneficial. While modern day homes are usually spacious they can be really dull, i quickly recognized this gave me more range to be able to put my personality on the room, and that thought gave me the concept to make use of wall art and wall sculptures to supply my room some individuality, but what would work best?
Old Greek buildings were not what we understand today. Most people recognize that they were beautiful structures which were standing, oftentimes for centuries, prior to suffering deterioration we know now, but did you know that they were once bright colored? You wouldn’t think so to look at the remains inside a museum. I used to eat my lunchtime while admiring the huge Assyrians gateways within the British Museum in London, just near room 18, home of the ‘Elgin marbles’. These famous sculptures were stripped away from the Parthenon in the early years of the 19th century by the Earl of Elgin, and the Greek government is still seeking to get them back. The sculptures tend to be stark, white and intensely beautiful, exactly what we think of whenever we consider ‘classical art’ yet what would the ancients have thought of them? Euripides provide us with a hint in his play ‘Helen of Troy’ when Helen says ‘If only I could shed my beauty and assume an uglier aspect, the way you wipe paint off a statue’. Those beautiful marble statues in their sparkling white were once vivid and colorful. So different from what we observe today and associate with the ancient world, that it’s truly difficult to envision.
We all view the ancient gods as abstract, as a result ancient wall sculptures like Poseidon in his chariot are ‘classical’ and completely at home in a modern room. It was only at the Renaissance that, finding ancient statues removed of their color by time, the sculptors thought they’d originally been white marble, and set out to emulate them. In antiquity the Greeks believed in living breathing Gods;their particular statues had been colored brightly in order to echo that. While we enjoy the awesome workmanship of the Parthenon statues the ancients adored their lifelike quality so much so that it had been said that at certain times of the day it was as if the gods in their friezes actually moved. The statues and painting techniques were made to bond and enhance the three dimensional quality of the natural stone, bringing the subject to life. Archaeologist Vinzenz Brinkmann is working hard to analyse ancient sculpture and build authentic reproductions. These, detailed with intricate paint techniques and colors are as near as it can be to those found in ancient times and the final results are intriguing; the ancient world will never seem the same again.
So what should I do? I could choose traditional Greek wall art and create a modern room, making my choice on the basis of symbolism. Hercules wrestling the lion might emphasize that even when my todo list is often a tad long, it is not the Labours of Hercules, while Dionysus on a donkey might help remind me the point of work is always to pay for the pleasure in the future. As an inhabitant of the New World I could choose Mayan wall reliefs, but I think my selection will be more ancient still. From Ramses who drove out the Hittites at the Battle of Kadesh, to the concept of Maat, goddess of justice and order, the wall sculptures of the Ancient Egyptians hold a limitless captivation. We’re much more familiar with color when it comes to Egypt, and therefore see these more as they really were, bold and brilliant in the desert sunlight. Egyptian decor could definitely do the trick.
For my Den my main choice is obvious; Thoth, the god of writing and wisdom, to keep me right always!
