Baby Boomers, The Generation That Made Today’s America
America is a proud country and Americans are proud people. The United States of America is a country that is made up of different cultures and different races. It is where people go to seek the American dream. In fact, more and more people from different countries think that the United States of America is the country of choice to seek a better life for them and for their children.This country experienced many wars and survived. It is also a country that has one of the best economies in the world and is also considered to be the country to embrace freedom and democracy. It is a country that is considered to be one of the most powerful countries today. However, behind it all, the American people are what really make the United States what it is today.
In fact, many generations and history have been left by the American people and influenced the world to live the American way. Some countries even adapted the American law to be implemented in their own country.Of the many generations that the United States of America went through, one of the most memorable is the generation of the baby boomers. Baby boomers are considered to be one of the United States generations that made a significant impact in the world. This generation is the generation that fought for civil rights and it is also the generation that emphasized widely on equal opportunities for all its citizens regardless of belief, gender, race and age.Baby boomers were people who were born between the post World War II era and the Vietnam War. This generation is called the baby boomer generation because of the significant increase in birth rate between the years of 1946 to 1964. This generation is considered to be one of the best generations in the United States history where its economy grew and civil rights were largely emphasized.
The baby boomers generation is also where education was one of the main priorities of the United States of America. People who were born in this era experienced fighting for their civil rights during the time of Vietnam War. Baby boomers also created a new kind of American culture. It included The Beatles, Rock and Roll, The Motown Sound, and even Hippies.You should expect that baby boomers are people who are politically inclined. Besides, baby boomers grew up knowing that the American Military can never be defeated and the bad guys were people who are socialist and communist. These people grew up in the Cold War era and grew up hating people who have communist ideals.
Today, it is considered that baby boomers will have more tenure in the political office than other generations. This is because of the huge population of baby boomers existing in the country today. However, more and more baby boomers are now complaining about age discrimination in the workplace. You should never forget the fact that these people grew up in the era where they came of age fighting for civil rights as an American and where unemployment were virtually nonexistent.It is also important that the baby boomers are people who have a wide view of politics and are increasingly interested in the way the nation is run. In fact, there have been two baby boomer presidents in the United States. Bill Clinton and the incumbent president George W. Bush was the very first baby boomer president of the United States. Furthermore, these presidents have emphasized widely on civil rights for Americans and have led the United States to economic growth.
If you are in the age of late 40s to 50s, you are considered to be part of the baby boomer population. It is expected that because of the advancement of medical technology, baby boomers will be able to enjoy a healthier lifestyle and also be able to live much longer than their predecessors.So, if you ever think that people who are in the ages of 40s or 50s are incompetent, you should think again. You should consider that these people were the ones responsible for your current lifestyle and fought for your right as a citizen of a great nation. It is just right that you should treat them with respect and dignity. The baby boomer generation is one of the greatest generations that the United States ever had.

Celebrating New Year’s Day
I don’t know what it is about the simple act of changing a calendar year, but New Year’s Day is always a time of resolutions and renewal in our home. We take this chance to start fresh and change things which we have not been happy with the previous year. While some things cannot be changed, such as medical issues and the nagging car repairs that come at the most inopportune time, there are many things about our lives which we can change when we set our minds to the task. The first tradition we have at our home is that of buying a wonderful and decorative calendar to hang on our wall. Sometimes we are given one for the holidays, other times we purchase our own. Every New Year’s Day I remove our old calendar and hang our new one. In the process, I first copy over any important family dates such as birthdays or anniversaries which I need to remember throughout the New Year. Many people set out to celebrate New Year’s Day by making resolutions which they really don’t have any real desire to fight to keep going throughout the year. If you have ever been in a health club or gym in January, then you know how many people can be there that you will never see again come February. It would be almost funny, if it wasn’t so sad.
The key to making your New Year’s resolutions and having them become reality in your life is to start small and really dedicate yourself to what you want to change in your life. If you are overweight, or even simply want to get into better shape, start with eating better and walking around your own neighborhood before you shell out the big money for a membership to a gym. Another good way to spend your New Years Day is to take the opportunity of the New Year to clean out and purge your living quarters. It is very common to bring home your gifts from holiday celebrations and then have no where to put them. By doing some much needed de-cluttering and purging you can have space for all of your new treasures and make some nice donations of your unused items as well. Two of the best places to get rid of your unwanted items are through your local thrift store or freecycle.org. Thrift stores will generally take just about anything which they can re-sell to others. With freecycle.org you send out an e-mail to your local area and the person interested in what you have to offer will come pick-up your unwanted items. Both your thrift store and freecycle.org are good ways to keep your unwanted items out of the landfill.
In our home, we spend New Years Day first transferring the calendar, and then we move into the kitchen where we go through all of our cabinets and take a good inventory of what is in each of them. For things we have a lot of, we make an effort to use some of it up in the next few months. For things we will need to purchase we put them on our master shopping list. While we are in the kitchen we also try to find items which make good donations to our local food pantry. For instance, if I have been getting great buys on soup and have 30 cans of it, I will usually give half to our local food pantry and keep the rest to cover us for the rest of winter. On addition to some of the suggestions above, it is always a good idea to look at the New Year as a time of renewal and a time when you can make changes to your life. However, rather than having lofty resolutions which you cannot keep, start small and make goals to change things over the next year or even longer. By making realistic goals you can change the things in your life that you choose to.

If you want a very happy child, considering throwing a birthday party worthy of the big top. A circus theme for a birthday party is sure to thrill and excite your little one and guests alike. Push all the furniture along the wall and allow the little ones to seat themselves on the floor along the “center ring” where all the action will be.
Now, you really should make an effort to have some sort of entertainment for the kiddos with an event of this nature. It can be a clown act, magic show, or simply someone making balloon animals for the birthday boy or girl and his or her guests. Face painting is another great activity to include on your list of events and shows and a lot of fun for the little ones. Be sure to include several great games (ring toss, pin the nose on the clown, and corn hole are great games worthy of a circus theme) and a craft activity or two in the running so that the little ones do not sit idly very long. It is always a good idea to keep them occupied and having fun.
The big top provides some excellent dining delights that carry over quite well into the birthday party theme. Hot dogs are an excellent lunch for a room filled with excited little ones. Candied apples, popcorn, and peanuts are also a great and fun addition to birthday party food that work well with the circus theme. Be sure to enlist serious muscle for the clean up when all is said and done.Goody bags can be a lot of fun for this particular event by using popcorn bags for the bag and filling them with circus animals, bubbles, glow bracelets, circus themed stickers, and other nifty little items. Oriental trading and local party stores might prove to be an excellent resource for goody bag gifts. Don’t forget to include a photo frame with a photo of each child with his or her face painted or balloon animal as a keepsake.
The main thing to remember when planning a party worthy of the big top moniker is that the most important thing is that everyone has a good time. Don’t sweat the small details so much that you aren’t able to enjoy the event. Other great ideas to make this an even bigger event include things such as renting a moon walk for kids to jump and play in, renting a cotton candy maker, and having a real popcorn popper rather than relying on microwave popcorn. There’s something about the smell that just makes it feel like a circus.Another thing you need to do when planning a big top or circus themed birthday party is plan for contingencies, such as rain if the party was to be held outside. The show must go on whether it is storming or whether the sun is shining brightly so be sure to have a back up plans in case things go awry.

Romance - Alive And Well In The Country
Twelve red roses, a bottle of wine, a box of chocolates, a candle lit dinner… pffttt. Compared to romance country-style, these clichéd notions of romance and dating seem old and passé.
I am not sure why - but of all of the romantic gestures I have ever heard of, the very best appear to be thought up by country folk. Maybe it is because they have so much time to think up wonderful ideas while they drive long distances and sit in tractors for twelve hour shifts - or perhaps they are inspired by the great scenery and countryside that surrounds them.
My friend Darren once gave his girlfriend a ring. There was no simple jewellery box or handing over of the token. A gorgeous new lamb delivered the ring tied to its neck on a beautiful ribbon.
My lovely friend Kirstie is married to Josh. Before every party he prepares a 44 gallon fire drum to keep the party guests warm. He adorns the drum with flowers, branches, cuttings of pictures and words to tell everyone how much he loves her. As we sit around the drum we read statements and stories about their life together and it’s obvious to all that Kirstie is the most special person in Josh’s life.
Josh is multitalented too. When Kirstie needed a hat for the races but could not buy one in town, Josh made her a hat. When I say ‘made’ I am not saying he let her wear his John Deere cap with a feather in it, but rather Josh created a work of art to make any milliner proud and to this day Kirstie still wears that hat to races.
My good friend Hugh loves to think up wonderful romantic ideas for his wife Mickey. He sets up treasure hunts for her so she can follow the clues to delicious chocolates and plans picnics in the moonlight down beside the lake. He has even been known to invite Mickey to a rodeo only to drive in the opposite direction on the night arriving at a beautiful restaurant with flowers and a prearranged booking.
Living in the country Australia has affected me romantically too. Many years ago I prepared a meal for my boyfriend. I cleaned up the old stables and I lined the walls with candles. With the tall snow gum trees outside we sat on the picnic blanket on the timber floors and drank wine and dined on a delectable selection of cheeses and fruit.
Romance should never be about the money spent or the things given. It is about the thought and the effort made to make your special love know they are the centre of your Universe.
