Get Ready For A Winter Break
If you use all your vacation time in the summer you can miss out on one of the greatest vacations of the year. Many people need a winter break just as much as they do in the summer. Planning and packing for a ski vacation can make the trip even more fun.
While there are many people who are able to take a one-day ski vacation and be back home at work the next day, others must plan to take a few days to travel to a resort for skiing. Either way, without the correct equipment, your winter vacation can become a miserable experience.
With deaths of celebrities such as Jon Denver and Sonny Bono, the world has started to realize the importance of head protection while skiing. A Giro ski helmet protects the brain during an accident. Use of this piece of equipment can help to prevent serious brain injuries or even death. Ski helmets should be worn by both children and adults.
It is easy to lose track of time when on the slopes and enjoying yourself. On overcast days when fresh snow is falling you can completely lose track of the time. When you are packing be sure to grab your black sport watch. The waterproof feature of the watch will protect it from all the moisture and snow and it will help you to meet your group at the correct time.
When you are finished for the day and ready to head into town to grab dinner, remember that even though you have left the slopes there may be snow on the ground in the resort town. Your brown boots will keep your feet warm and dry during the trip. A boot drier will have them warm and dry for the next morning when you head out to breakfast.
Ski jackets and bibs help to keep everyone both warm and dry. When the day is over, they should be hung so that they will be dry for the next day. If you are fortunate enough to be in a condo with a washer and drier, they can be tossed in the drier and will be ready to go in just a few minutes.
If you own your own skis, you will want to be sure that you take them to the local ski shop for waxing and tuning before heading off to your vacation. You do not want to be stuck with your skis in the shop during the few days you get to spend on the slopes.
If seasonal depression is making its way into your life, the exercise offered by a day or week of skiing may be helpful. In addition, you are likely to get some of that needed bright sunlight during your day at the slopes. Why not plan to take a winter break and enjoy a ski vacation with your family?

The Ski Trip: A Perfect Winter Vacation
Is the long, cold winter wearing you down? Why not embrace the season and head off for a good old-fashioned ski trip? Whether it’s a family vacation or just a group of friends looking for a good time, a trip to the snowy hills has always been the way to celebrate the frigid months in style. With so many activities to fill your days, there’s no wonder why.
Depending on how far you are willing to travel, there are many amazing ski resorts. North America, especially Canada features some of the best skiing around, which is why it is hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics. Europe has even better options with beautiful French and Italian resorts located amid the spectacular Alps.
Skiing may be a bit daunting to the first-timer. It’s easy to see the pros whizzing by and get nervous. But don’t worry and take it slow. Just remember to wear protective gear like your ski helmet and you’ll be protected against most falls. There are many gentle slopes that are safe for beginners, but are still quite enjoyable.
Nowadays, the sport of skiing is receiving some tough competition from the newer, hipper snowboarding. No long only for rebels and surfers anymore, snowboarding has made it into the Olympics as an official sport. Some say it’s a little more difficult than skiing, but offers an even more intense thrill. An entire generation has fallen in love with this new sport which makes it worth trying out.
No doubt you’ll be worn out after snowboarding or skiing all day. There are plenty of ways to relax in style. Groups of friends will often keep the fun outside by setting up a campfire and pulling out an Alvarez acoustic guitar for a sing-along. For families, nothing beats quality time in the cabin with some hot cocoa and a fun board game.
Whatever activities you and your friends or family choose to do, don’t forget to document it. Bring along all your scrapbooking tools, whether it’s a camcorder, digital camera or an old-fashioned journal. This is a great way to take that magical winter feeling with you even into the humid summer months.
Although it’s not something most people can do every weekend, a ski trip is something everyone should try at least once. Like many a first-timer, you may get hooked and will not be able to imagine a winter without it. So locate the nearest resort near you and tell you friends or family to pack their bags.
