Is it safe to wash Hosiery and Tights in a washing machine?
Many people would love to be able to wash their tights in a washing machine. Reading the instructions would make you believe that this is not possible. But is it safe if you wash them in the washing machine anyway?
Most manufacturers will suggest that you hand wash your tights using warm water and a mild washing detergent. They suggest this because they are made out of delicate materials. If you wash your tights too hot then this will only cause them damage. If you wash them in a machine and set it too hot then this will ruin your tights. They say that you should hand wash your tights.
Not everyone has enough time at the moment to wash their tights. Tights are very absorbent and made out of very close weave fabrics. This can make it extremely difficult to get the soap suds out of the material. You have to rinse, and repeat several times before you can try and wring out as much water as possible. If you could put your hosiery in the washing machine then you will save a lot of time.
It would be much easier if you could wash the tights in a washing machine. All you would need to do is dump them into the machine and then wait while the machine finishes the job. Because you are using a machine you can also spin the tights which will mean that they will dry much faster.
Washing in a machine is possible; however you need to be very careful. You might for example want to place your pantyhose in a pillow case before you wash them. This will help prevent them from getting tangled up in the machine. You will also need to ensure that you wash them on a delicate cycle and use a low temperature. Never wash them too hot. Make sure you use a gentle detergent so that it won’t cause damage. Make sure that the spin cycle isn’t too fast as this could also cause damage.
Only wash tights in a machine if they are in good condition. If there are any ladders in the tights then you shouldn’t wash them. Ladders, even if they are repaired are weak spots of the tights. If the ladder doesn’t stop you from wearing the tights again then you might want to avoid the washing machine so that you can use them for longer.
Thicker tights will be much safer in washing machines. If you use very thin tights then they are more at risk of being damaged from the pressure of the washing machine. Just as long as you are cautious it is possible to wash your tights in the washing machine.
If you follow all of these simple tips then you will be able to easily wash your tights in the washing machine. This will save you lots of time and also get them cleaner than you could by hand. There are many different things that you could be doing rather than washing tights. Moretips available at www.tights.ie.
